qruise Gmbh

Over the past few years, I have contributed to several projects for Qruise GmbH. In doing so, I worked across a range of disciplines and supported the company’s growth and development through innovative ideas and professional expertise. Please choose a field that interests you:

1.+ 2. Understand & Define

qruise introduced the technical blog to share industries problems and difficulties. To make this highly technical and theoretical topic more tangible, we created the likeable "quantopuss" Pauli, who playfully introduces people to the field of quantum research. We also had to think about what kind of character Pauli should embody: curious, brave, and inventive.
We also dug a little into the history of quantum physics and came across Wolfgang Pauli, who seemed to be the perfect namesake for Pauli. Wolfgang Pauli developed the Pauli exclusion principle, which states that no two electrons in an atom can share the same set of quantum numbers.

3.+ 4. Brainstorming and Prototype

Here, I showcase his development from prototype to representative mascot. Why an octopus? In the world of quantum research, many scientists wish they had more arms or hands to handle multiple tasks at the same time. Pauli already has eight of them. Practical, isn’t it?

5. Test & Finish

In the end, we decided that we want to emphasize Pauli's curiosity and liveliness. He doesn't give up and approaches everything with enthusiasm. In terms of communication style, we focus on clear, vivid explanations that even a layperson would understand. Pauli's stories make quantum physics tangible and illustrate problems and qruise's solutions for them with fun and ease.

UX & Design - qruise Os

1.+ 2. Understand & Define

Qruise asked me to support them in improving the usage of their Qruise OS dashboard. QruiseOS is an automated bring-up platform for rapid characterisation, calibration, and control of quantum devices.

That meant, on the one hand, creating a clear and well-structured look for the dashboard, while also explicitly addressing the needs and wishes of the scientists working with it. The dashboard start page now shows the most important features and has a well-structured menu.

I started to research, analyse customer feedback, and had a lot of talks with scientists and developers about the best ways to look at and analyse quantum devices.

3. Brainstorming

Qruise OS needed to enable users to connect characterisation experiments to a model database, define sequences and dependencies between them. As well as execute these either in automated batch mode or interactive debugging mode.

Another important aspect was the users’ desire to be able to compare experiments. There was also a strong demand for filtering experiments and workflows. These features were carefully considered and thoughtfully integrated into the new design.

4. Prototype

In close collaboration with the dashboard users, a new and more user-friendly layout was developed. It now ensures greater clarity and usability, tailored to the needs of different researchers. In addition to the newly streamlined menu, the redesign also includes a filter bar and customized workflow views. Every element follows a clear hierarchy and is now consistently aligned with the others.

5. Test & Finish

The prototype is finished, and we test and refine functions and details. We got, again, a lot of feedback from the users and implement it to our design. We were able to adjust last inconsistencies, test the usage once again and optimize it. And with that, the design phase is over for now.

6. time for a review

Step by step, the planned elements were integrated into the software. The new layout has been in place for quite some time now. During my conversations at the beginning of the project, I received feedback that the dashboard was hardly used. By the end of the project — with the new layout and most of the planned features already implemented — many of the people I had previously interviewed told me that they were now using the software on their own initiative because it had become so practical and easy to navigate.

Booth Design

Booth Design

For a booth in a scientific field, it's equally important to draw attention as well as deliver information. Together with qruise's marketing expert, we came up with some stunning booth design which hatched a lot of positive feedback.
